Overview
The mute individual known as Silence has mostly been involved in petty burglary and quiet, fanfareless crime fighting and remains unknown by the majority of the populace. However, among those that do know of him, he has drawn an unusually close watch from heroes, villains, and government agencies alike. Not for his actions, but for the nature of his powers.
Description
Silence wears a black-and-white bodysuit with a unique-looking technological device worn on his back. His mask is featureless. More than just mute, the very air around him seems to absorb sound, causing him to move and act in absolute quiet. He communicates primarily though sign language.
Origin Story
The origin of Silas' powers is unknown, but is actively being researched by people who are not him.
Personality
In his persona, Silence is like a ghost, appearing, acting, and disappearing while avoiding notice.
Powers
The most surface version of Silence's powers is the field of muted sound that perpetually surrounds him. He has a degree of control over it and can cause it to extend or change shape, or retract. He cannot fully shut it off, though, and his muteness is not biological but a side effect of this.
In fact, this silence is only the most basic manifestation of his actual power: Silence possesses a still-developing potential to "negate". What frightens others is the sheer bredth of what this power seems capable of affecting. He has demonstrated the ability to negate waves (e.g. sound) and other physical forces, the superpowers of others, spacetime itself, and by some reports even lifeforce directly. At present, his capacity to erase these things is minimal, though certain individuals fear what may happen if that were ever to change.
In addition to this power, Silence is a capable sleuth, acrobat, sneak, and has developed a unique form of martial arts that takes advantage of the fact that he often need only touch opponents to incapacitate them.
Equipment
Silence utilizes a special device worn on his back to amplify his powers to a level where he can effectively fight (or commit) crime.
Complications
Speculation of what could happen should his powers ever become stronger has led numerous organizations, including The Metahuman Research Center and at least one prominant supervillain collective, to attempt to keep a close eye on him. The latter sees a potentially potent weapon, or threat, and classified documentation from the former has stated [REDACTED]. Silence, perhaps unsurpringly, has no interest in being a tool, nor sealed away, nor killed, and has thus far evaded capture.
