Aegis
"They were the greatest heroes the world had ever seen. If but we were the greatest people they had served."
—Mayor of Centropolis, in an exerpt from the team's eulogy
Overview
Aegis was once the world's premier superhero team. Based out of a hidden base beneath Centropolis, it consisted of over a dozen of the world's most prominent heroes and even more affiliate members over the course of its existence. Aegis was involved in innumerable acts of defense, both large and small. Their final service was as prominant figures during The Eventide, after which they sacrificed themselves to restore the damage done in the conflict.

Goals
Aegis was founded to confront the world's greatest threats – ones individual heroes could not hope to face alone. Over time, it also became a vessel for mutual support in the members' individual crime-fighting and protector roles.

-
Enemies: Aegis drew the ire of many supervillains who resented the team's disruption of their plans. In at least one case, an unlikely alliance had been formed for the purpose of bringing them down, though it did not succeed.
-
Rivals: Aegis was not the only superhero team, and occasionally came into conflict or competition with other groups whose ideals differed.
